Texas' diverse geography is being visited by most collectors of rocks and minerals. It's land scoped with seas, great plains, hills, rivers and mountains that was formed by nature since the earliest era of earth history.

Blue Topaz, plume agate in rainbow colors, graphic granite, cinnabar, petrified palm wood, tektites and the astonishing number of superb fossils are the collectors most search for.

Here are the list of the most interesting specimens that could be found in Texas:

Agate - The varieties of plume, banded, pom pom, thistle, zebra and more are bountiful in areas of Alpine, Marfa, Sierra Blanca, Hovey Flats west of Forth Stockton, and along much of Rio Grande. Industry uses agates chiefly to make ornaments such as pins, brooches, paper knives, inkstands, marbles and seals. Because of its hardness and ability to resist acids, agate is used to make mortars and pestles to crush and mix chemicals.

Amethyst - The prized purple or violet gemstone mostly in perfect six-sided prisms found in the Sierra Blanca and Quitman Mountains near Sierra Blanca and around Alpine. It is often used in jewelry.

Celestite - Clear to blue crystals found in the Mount Bonnell area of Austin, also around Lampasas and Georgetown. They are commonly used as earth healing crystals, jewelry, accessories to other magical stuff like crystal orb or gems for armors and staff.

Cinnabar - Red heavy, soft mercury ore (mercuric sulfide), found around the ghost mining towns of Study Butte and Terlingua immediately west of big Bend National Park. Cinnabar is the primary ore of mercury. Mercury is used instruments, electrical controls and as a fungicide. It was once used to recover gold from stream sediments and crushed ore, however other methods are used now.

Granite - Huges domes of an enormous pink granite pluton rock formation in the surface of Llano uplift region of Central Texas. Texas red and and pink granite is widely used for the antiquity of monument and building material. Like the State Capitol is made of Texas pink granite.

Llanite - A beautiful, gem-quality type of granite with sky-blue quartz inclusions; named after Llano the only place where it is found. It is used in jewelry, figurines & sculptures.

Petrified Wood - It is the result of tree undergone the process of permineralization and will completely turn to stone. Abundant and of great variety in Texas that made Petrified Palmwood as the Texas State Stone. It is used in jewelry.

Tektites - rare sphere, round, or irregular shaped of dark natural glass that show the characteristics of objects that have passed through the atmosphere at extreme speed; Scientist cannot determined and still debating about it's origin. According to findings the way it is formed and shaped is under a phenomenal temperature and pressure not found on the earth. It could be a historical decoration.

Topaz - The colorless to light-blue variety of Topaz are found in Precambrian Granite in Mason County within the Llano uplift. It is the Texas State Gem. And been famous gemstone to collectors. It is used in jewelry.
