68She is Maria Venus Raj, the 4th runner up Miss Universe 2010 pageant held in Mandalay Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. She had been the darling of the crowd that night of August 24, 2010, because there were many Filipinos who went to Las Vegas to support her.
In the coronation night there were 83 contestants. She was called in the 15th spot of the top 15 semi-finalist of the preliminary judging. After the swimsuit competition, the judges selected the top 10 and she was called in the 3rd spot. Then the evening gown competition where she wore silver gown with confidence and later on, the top 5 was announced and she was called in 5th spot. While this is happening there was a group that could represent how Filipino feels about this. This video made it to 500,000 viewers in the first day, and it hits 1.8 million viewers for just 5 days. It was also featured in different prestigious TV Programs of different countries.
Venus' childhood dream was to be in a very prestigious pageant. She was molded and trained by her sister when she was young especially in the question and answer portion. She started to join the pageant when she was in high school. And she went on with her dreams, even after she finished her Journalism course as a cum laude, she won the Miss Philippines crown. However, dethroned because of the birth certificate issue but she fought for her right and retrieved the crown when she got her passport.
Though she did not win the Miss Universe crown there are lots of supporters that could say she had surpassed their expectation when she made it to the top 5. To some Filipinos, her unforgettable answer became nevertheless the major, major delight after the hostage taking that happened in Quirino Granstand. But because Venus Raj exhibited poise, grace, elegance and beauty during the pageant, the former Miss Universe Gloria Diaz arrived to the idea of using the services of an interpreter during the Q&A of the pageant. Though many Filipinos are fluent in speaking English like Venus Raj, it is still very comfortable to speak and answer the question in Filipino.

I've written 2 hubs about Miss Universe 2010, including my feature, our very own 4th runner-up MV Raj.
I confirmed, due to the rambunctious discussions by local college students that our kabayang Venus (she's from our province, Camarines Sur) did falter (she's overwhelmed with the hunk actor) during the Q&A portion(William Baldwin asked for major mistake not problem). They settled (these teenage girls) that one question should be given to every Top Final 5, like the usual way for the future Miss Universe pageant.
Using interpreter will be a minus to our stature of being bilingual country.

@travel_man1971: We are bilingual but sometimes interpretation is one way to use the time to ponder the question. Do you think those others who are using interpreter doesn't really speak and understand English. (hidden Agenda hahaha!)
